Medical aid in Dying (MAID)

Honoring Choice, Easing the Journey

Receiving a terminal diagnosis is life-changing. It brings up questions, emotions, fears—and sometimes, the desire for more control in a situation that can feel anything but. With Rest Easy, I hold space for all of that.

I believe every person deserves the right to make choices about their own body, their care, and how they leave this world. For some, that includes considering Medical Aid in Dying—a legal option in California that allows mentally capable, terminally ill adults to take medication that brings about a peaceful death, on their own terms.

I approach this path with deep compassion and zero judgment. Whether you're just exploring your options or already know this is the right step for you, I'm here to walk beside you—gently and with respect for your autonomy, values, and dignity.

What is Medical Aid in Dying (MAID)?

Medical Aid in Dying (MAID) is a legal, compassionate option in California that allows terminally ill adults to choose a peaceful, medically supervised death—if and when their suffering becomes too great.

Under California’s End of Life Option Act, a person may request a prescription for life-ending medication if they meet certain requirements:

  • They are 18 or older and a California resident
  • They have a terminal illness with a prognosis of six months or less
  • They are mentally capable of making healthcare decisions
  • They are able to take the medication themselves

This law is not about giving up—it’s about reclaiming a sense of control, dignity, and peace at life’s end. Some people choose to take the medication, others find comfort just knowing it’s there. Either choice is valid and deeply personal.

At Rest Easy, I'm here to support your decisions, whatever they may be so you can rest easy, now and forever.

How a Death Doula Can Support MAID Clients

Choosing Medical Aid in Dying is deeply personal and can come with a wide range of emotions—relief, fear, peace, uncertainty. You don’t have to walk that path alone.

As a death doula, my role is to walk with you, without judgment, and to offer steady, compassionate support every step of the way. While I do not provide medical care, I offer the kind of care that wraps around it: emotional, spiritual, practical, and human.

Here’s how I can support you or your loved ones through the MAID process:

  • Emotional and spiritual support
Holding space for the emotions, conversations, fears, and reflections that come with facing the end of life. I’m here to listen, to witness, and to offer peace—not solutions.
  • Guidance through the MAID process
I can help you understand the steps involved, assist with paperwork and timelines, and ensure you're aware of your rights—always encouraging conversations with your medical team.
  • Planning for a meaningful final day
If you choose to take the medication, we can plan your final day together. That may include music, ritual, who you want by your side, what you want your space to feel like, and how you want to say goodbye.
  • Support for your loved ones
I offer guidance and comfort for family and friends—before, during, and after—helping them feel more prepared and supported through grief and transition.

Whether you choose to move forward with MAID or are simply exploring it as an option, my role is to support your wishes, your timeline, and your vision for a peaceful, dignified goodbye. See Services & Pricing for additional information.
